A volleyball ground in Tiskar, Ponda, which has been a sporting hub for generations, is now struggling with neglect, with thick vegetation taking over the playing area.

For nearly 50 years, the ground has hosted several volleyball matches and served as a meeting point for local sports enthusiasts. However, the once-active sporting venue has now fallen into a state of disrepair, with the ground heavily overgrown with shrubs and weeds.

The deteriorating condition has raised concerns among local residents and sports lovers, who say a ground with such a long sporting history deserves better upkeep.

Ponda Municipal Council Chairperson Virendra Dhavalikar said the municipality will take up the work of clearing the overgrowth and carrying out necessary repairs after the fourth.

For generations of players who have stepped onto the ground, the proposed clean-up could bring back not just a playing field, but a familiar part of Tiskar’s sporting identity.
