Student enrolment in government primary schools across Goa continues to decline, with the latest figures showing a drop of nearly 2,000 students in just one year.

According to the data, government primary schools had 17,027 students from Classes 1 to 4 during the 2025–26 academic year.

The figure has now dropped to 15,163 students in 2026–27, marking a decline of 1,864 students.

Meanwhile, aided schools across Goa have recorded a total enrolment of 50,143 students.

The declining enrolment in government primary schools has raised concerns over the growing preference for aided and other schooling options in the state
