Former Goa State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (GSCPCR) chairperson Peter Floriano Borges has raised serious questions over the Verna Police’s handling of an alleged crime involving a four-year-old child, claiming that police attention was diverted due to VVIP security duties.

Borges alleged that the police failed to respond adequately to the case while personnel were deployed for VVIP security arrangements. He questioned whether child safety was being compromised due to policing priorities elsewhere.

He further alleged that the incident reflects wider shortcomings in Goa’s child protection system and claimed that the state’s mechanisms meant to protect children have failed to respond effectively.

Borges called for greater accountability and a stronger response from authorities in cases involving children, stressing that child protection must remain a priority.
