A reporter was allegedly assaulted by a tout at Baga while recording a video of him, following which a complaint was filed at the Calangute Police Station. Police subsequently took the alleged tout into custody, and further investigation is underway.
Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte said the Tourism Department has written to Goa Police, seeking action against those involved in the incident. He said the department has also directed the police to take strict action to curb the tout menace and ensure the safety of tourists and the public.
Calangute MLA Michael Lobo has raised concerns over the increasing number of touts operating in coastal areas and alleged that inadequate police action has allowed some of them to openly misbehave with tourists.
Lobo said strict action is needed to curb the menace and called for the accused to be arrested and fined.
Police are conducting further inquiries into the incident.
