In a major breakthrough in the firing incident at Hotel Neo Majestic in Porvorim, the Crime Branch of Goa Police has apprehended three persons allegedly involved in the case.
The incident took place on August 28, when complainant Shrinivas Nayak was about to leave the hotel for his residence. Two unidentified persons allegedly fired three to four rounds at him. Nayak escaped unhurt, following which the assailants fled towards the highway.
Nayak’s bodyguard, who was present at the time, fired three rounds in response to protect him. The incident also posed a serious threat to guests and staff present in the hotel lobby.
Porvorim Police had initially registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and the Arms Act. The case was later transferred to the Crime Branch Police Station at Ribandar for further investigation.
During the investigation, the Crime Branch, along with teams from the North District, analysed CCTV footage from the hotel and surrounding areas, conducted technical analysis and examined the complainant, his bodyguard and other witnesses.
The three persons apprehended have been identified as Qazu Sheikh (28), a resident of Shivaji Nagar, Govandi, Mumbai; Israr Ali (25), a resident of Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh; and Suraj (36), a resident of Borivali East, Mumbai.
Qazu Sheikh was apprehended in Uttar Pradesh with the assistance of Jaunpur Police, while Israr Ali and Suraj were taken into custody from Mumbai.
The accused are being interrogated to ascertain their respective roles, the motive behind the firing and whether any other persons were involved in the incident.
Further investigation is in progress.
