The proposed reservation of the Sanguem Assembly constituency for Scheduled Tribes (STs) has triggered political and community concerns, with sections of the Bhandari community expressing displeasure over the developments and the statements surrounding local MLA and Minister Subhash Phal Dessai.

Members of the community claimed that they had supported the BJP consistently and worked for the party with loyalty, but alleged that steps were taken towards ST reservation for Sanguem without adequately taking local stakeholders into confidence.

The issue has gained further attention amid reports that Subhash Phal Dessai has indicated that he may consider shifting to another constituency, including Curchorem, if Sanguem is reserved for STs.

The developments have reportedly caused resentment among sections of the Bhandari community in Sanguem. Community members questioned the future political representation of the constituency and sought clarity from the BJP leadership.

BJP Goa President Damu Naik had also made remarks concerning Phal Dessai, which have drawn criticism from sections of the community. Those opposing the remarks have demanded an apology from Naik, saying his statement against the minister was unwarranted.

Responding to the issue, Naik said he would speak with Phal Dessai and maintained that discussions were being held within the party.
