Former Bombay High Court Chief Justice Ferdino I. Rebello said the ongoing movement against the electoral roll revision should not be viewed as a move towards anarchy, but as an expression of public concerns over alleged disenfranchisement.

Rebello argued that once a person’s name is included in the electoral roll, the state should provide evidence if it seeks to establish that the individual is not an Indian citizen.

He also called on organisations working for democracy to come together and support the movement, saying that such concerns need to be raised collectively.

Rebello further announced plans to raise the issue at Azad Maidan, where voices against the electoral roll revision are expected to be brought together.
