Water Resources Department (WRD) Minister Subhash Shirodkar has said Goa has sufficient raw water and that the government has made plans to meet water requirements until August 2027, even if the state receives no rainfall.
The minister said the government has constituted a task force to address concerns related to climate change, the El Niño phenomenon and the availability of raw and freshwater in the state.
Shirodkar said the task force would discuss the necessary measures to tackle potential water shortages, with its first meeting scheduled to deliberate on the issue.
The minister also indicated that the government could consider imposing a ban on swimming pools in Goa if required, as part of measures to manage water resources.
He reiterated that the government has planned water availability until August 2027, even in the absence of rainfall.
