Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has defended the proposed FCRA Bill, saying there is no reason to oppose the legislation and questioning the protests against it in Goa.
“There is nothing to oppose in the FCRA Bill. I don’t understand why people in Goa are opposing it,” Sawant said.
However, the Catholic Association of Goa has raised concerns over the proposed legislation, warning that if the Bill is passed, the Centre could gain greater control over the properties of NGOs, religious institutions and charitable trusts.
The association has also expressed apprehension that the government could potentially stake a claim over such properties, triggering concerns among religious and charitable organisations.
