Gram Sabha meetings in Davorlim and Cavelossim saw villagers raise a range of development, environmental and civic concerns, with members seeking action from the respective panchayats and authorities.

At the Davorlim Gram Sabha, members passed a resolution opposing Section 39A and No Development Zone (NDZ) provisions, expressing concerns over their impact on local residents and development activities.

The meeting also discussed complaints regarding alleged illegal constructions, the condition and protection of a local lake, and narrow roads in the area. Villagers highlighted the difficulties caused by inadequate road width and raised concerns over safety and accessibility.

Meanwhile, the Cavelossim Gram Sabha discussed several issues concerning the village’s environment and future development. The Coastal Zone Management Plan (CZMP), pollution in the Sal River, concerns related to taxi drivers, proposed projects, alleged mangrove cutting and the carrying capacity of the village were among the key issues raised.

Villagers sought greater attention to their concerns and urged the authorities to take appropriate measures on issues affecting the environment and quality of life in the village.

The Cavelossim meeting also witnessed criticism over the conduct of the Gram Sabha. Some villagers alleged that Sarpanch Dixon Vaz bulldozed the proceedings and failed to adequately address issues raised by members of the public.

Residents from both villages called for greater transparency, proper consideration of public concerns and timely action by the concerned authorities on issues affecting their communities.
