Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant has said that specialised restoration of Corjuvem Fort, overseen by the Department of Archaeology, is progressing steadily. The project involves the use of lime mortar, sand, and large exposed laterite stones, carefully chosen to match the size and texture of the existing fort structure.

Replying to an unstarred question raised by Aldona MLA Carlos Alvares Ferreira about the restoration of the Corjuem Fort, CM Sawant said “During execution, the contractor faced difficulties in sourcing these specialised materials locally due to post-COVID supply disruptions. Additionally, construction of facilities such as toilet blocks, parking areas, pathways, and an amphitheatre was delayed, as the land outside the fort belongs to private owners, resulting in delays in obtaining the required No Objection Certificates (NOCs). The contractor stated that these challenges were unforeseen at the time of tender assessment and contract awarding.”

In view of these circumstances, the project timeline was earlier extended to 31st March 2025 as per Order No. Tech/2/Archaeology/18/2023-24/354, dated 17th September 2024. The contractor has now applied for a further extension until 27th November 2025.

All work inside the fort is nearing completion, and the Department of Archaeology has confirmed that restoration will be completed by March 2026.
