Congress and the Revolutionary Goans Party (RGP) have intensified discussions on their proposed alliance, with a meeting held at the International Centre in Dona Paula focusing on a common manifesto and key issues to be taken up jointly ahead of the 2027 Goa Assembly elections.

RGP president Shavina Naik Shirodkar, GPCC president Girish Chodankar and members of both parties’ alliance committees participated in the meeting.

The discussions covered several proposed common agenda points, including the demand to repeal Section 39A, Goa’s financial obligations and other matters concerning the state. The parties also discussed the framework for seat-sharing, although no constituencies have been finalised so far.

AICC Goa co-incharge Anjali Nimbalkar said the dialogue between the two parties would continue, with additional rounds of discussions expected before the alliance arrangements are finalised.

Nimbalkar said the proposed platform would remain open to those supporting issues concerning Goa and seeking the state’s development.

The Mahadayi river dispute was also raised during the discussions. Nimbalkar said Goa’s interests should be safeguarded while recognising Karnataka’s concerns, and urged the Union government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take steps towards resolving the dispute.

RGP MLA Viresh Borkar said the alliance discussions were progressing positively and that both parties were now concentrating on strengthening their presence at the grassroots.

Borkar also claimed that the developing Congress-RGP alliance had put the BJP under pressure, while asserting that the two parties were prepared to continue their organisational efforts across the state.
