A report by the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) tabled in the Goa Legislative Assembly has exposed several financial lapses across various government departments and agencies, resulting in cumulative losses running into crores.

The audit revealed that the River Navigation Department suffered a loss of â‚¹11 lakh due to the failure to maintain a cash book. Similarly, the Excise Department incurred a loss of around â‚¹30 lakh owing to short levy of duty.

Further, the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) failed to renew advertisement agreements in time, resulting in a revenue loss of â‚¹45 crore. In another case, the Mormugao Municipal Council violated norms by constructing roads on 11 private properties, leading to a loss of â‚¹83 lakh in recoverable dues.

The CAG has highlighted these instances as part of its findings on inefficiencies and violations in the functioning of public offices, calling for greater accountability and corrective measures.
