Goa Forward Party (GFP) chief and Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai has raised concerns over the ongoing electoral roll revision ahead of the 2027 Goa Assembly elections, saying the election must not turn into what he described as a “vote-chori election.”

Sardesai alleged that the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls could benefit the BJP and claimed that a process was underway to remove the names of anti-BJP voters from the electoral rolls ahead of the Assembly elections.

His remarks come amid continuing political controversy over the SIR exercise in Goa. The Chief Electoral Officer’s records show that Goa conducted SIR in 2025-26, with the final electoral roll published on February 21, 2026.

Sardesai questioned whether the confidence being displayed by BJP leaders was linked to changes in the electoral rolls. He alleged that manipulation of voter lists could have an impact on the electoral process and urged vigilance ahead of the 2027 polls.

The issue has already triggered criticism from opposition parties. Recent reports have also highlighted cases of voters being left out of the final roll following the SIR exercise. The Election Commission’s Goa portal provides mechanisms for voters to verify their names and electoral details.

Congress has separately alleged a nexus between the BJP and the Election Commission over the electoral roll revision, questioning the manner in which names were deleted during the SIR process. These remain political allegations, while the Election Commission has maintained official electoral-roll procedures and mechanisms for claims and corrections.
