Canacona Police has registered an FIR after a resident was allegedly duped into a fake cryptocurrency investment scheme. The accused reportedly induced the complainant to share HDFC bank account details to receive investor funds, following which the accounts were frozen after being linked to suspected cyber fraud, causing financial and legal complications. • The RGP Disciplinary Committee has issued a notice to suspended party member Ajay Kholkar, directing him to appear before the panel on August 7 in connection with allegations that led to his suspension. Custodial Torture Case: HC Says Preserve CCTV Footage

The High Court has issued an interim order directing the inspector in charge of Valpoi Police Station to preserve all CCTV footage recorded between 18 April and 26 April 2026, in connection with allegations of illegal custody and police torture that allegedly led to the suicide of Moin Shaikh.

The deceased’s brother, Sofiyan Mohamad Shaikh, has filed a petition before the High Court seeking transfer of the investigation to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The petitioner alleges that his brother was taken into illegal custody by PSI Prathmesh Gawas and another officer during the intervening night of 25–26 April 2026 and was subjected, while in custody, to severe physical torture by PSI Gawas and other Valpoi Police Station personnel.

The petitioner further contends that the resulting physical and psychological trauma compelled Moin Shaikh to take his own life on 28 April 2026. Having regard to the gravity of the allegations, the High Court directed the Inspector, Valpoi Police Station, to preserve all CCTV recordings for the period 18–26 April 2026 until further orders. The matter is listed for further hearing on 20 August 2026, when the High Court is likely to consider the petitioner’s request for transfer of the investigation to the CBI.
