Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant said the role of Physical Education teachers has evolved beyond conducting routine physical training, stressing that they must now be equipped to identify sporting talent and guide students towards the discipline best suited to their abilities.

Addressing a gathering, the Chief Minister said every Physical Education teacher should possess knowledge of a wide range of sports so they can effectively mentor young athletes and help them realise their potential.

"The era when PT teachers were limited to conducting physical drills is over. Their responsibility today is to recognise talent, encourage students and train them in the sport where they can excel," he said.

Dr. Sawant also underlined the importance of promoting sports as a tool for nation-building and social development. He said Physical Education teachers have a crucial role in motivating young people to actively participate in sports and physical activities.

According to the Chief Minister, greater participation in sports helps keep youth away from drug addiction and other unhealthy habits while encouraging discipline, fitness and a positive outlook towards life.

He said a drug-free and empowered youth population is essential for achieving the vision of a developed Goa and a developed India, adding that healthy young citizens will play a key role in driving the State's and the country's future progress.
