Goa Becomes First Indian State to Roll Out Comprehensive Adult Vaccination Policy

In a landmark move for public healthcare in India, Goa has officially launched the "Goa Policy for Lifecourse Immunisation 2026-36." This groundbreaking initiative makes Goa the first state in the nation to establish operational guidelines and a structured 10-year framework for systematic adult immunisation.

Announced by Health Minister Vishwajit Rane, the policy aims to enhance quality of life by extending state-driven immunisation. The policy emphasizes voluntary participation, prioritizing high-risk and vulnerable demographics, including senior citizens and individuals living with chronic conditions such as diabetes.

In its initial rollout, the state will prioritize three key vaccines: Influenza, Pneumococcal disease and Hepatitis B. Built upon four core priorities : analyzing local morbidity patterns, identifying clinical risk groups, creating standardized protocols and developing operational guidelines. The framework is built to adapt as medical advancements emerge.

By shifting focus toward lifelong preventive care, Goa sets a progressive precedent for public health policy across India.
