A 45-year-old woman, who sustained serious head injuries after falling from a scooter in Mandrem, succumbed to her injuries while undergoing treatment at the Goa Medical College (GMC), Bambolim, on September 23.

The deceased has been identified as Deepali Kerkar, wife of Mahesh Mhamal, a resident of Madhlamaj, Mandrem, Pernem.

According to police, Kerkar was travelling as a pillion rider with her husband on an Activa scooter bearing registration number GA-11-C-2084 after attending Ganpati Visarjan at Madhlamaj. When they reached near HDFC Bank at Madhlamaj, the scooter reportedly slipped while negotiating a speed breaker, causing Kerkar to fall on the road.

She sustained serious head injuries and was initially taken to CHC Tuem for treatment. She was subsequently referred to the District Hospital, Mapusa, and later shifted to GMC Bambolim, where she was admitted to Ward No. 126 on September 19.

A Motor Vehicle Accident case, MV Accident 30/2026, was registered on September 19 in connection with the incident.

Police received a wireless message, No. 7499/26, from GMC Bambolim informing them that Kerkar had expired while undergoing treatment.

As the deceased died within seven years of her marriage, the matter was reported to the SDM, Pernem, for further inquiry under Section 196 of the BNSS.

The SDM, Pernem, subsequently visited the GMC mortuary at Bambolim and conducted an inquest panchnama over the body.

The body was referred for post-mortem examination. According to the medical opinion given by Dr Vishnu Dev S., the cause of death was head injury in the form of subdural and subarachnoid haemorrhage and cerebral contusion consequent to blunt force impact.

Following the post-mortem examination and completion of the required procedures, the body was handed over to the family for the final religious rites.
