Onion prices have risen sharply in Goa ahead of the festive season, with the vegetable currently selling at around ₹70 per kg in Panaji markets.

Retail vendors said onion prices could rise further and may touch ₹80 per kg in the coming days, adding to the pressure on consumers during the festive period.

The rise in onion prices comes after vegetable rates had already increased considerably with the onset of Shravan. With the festive season now underway, consumers are facing higher prices for essential vegetables.

However, there could be some relief in the coming days. Horticulture Corporation Managing Director Chandrahas Dessai said onion prices are expected to decline within the next 15 days.
