With fish catches from the sea witnessing a decline and demand for farmed fish steadily increasing, a two-day aquaculture training seminar was organised at Chinchinim to encourage fish farming as a sustainable source of livelihood and self-employment.

The programme was organised by the Sucolda Farmers Club in association with the Department of Fisheries, bringing together farmers, youth, self-help groups (SHGs) and aspiring entrepreneurs from across Goa.

The seminar focused on scientific fish farming techniques, including pond preparation, water management and fish rearing practices. Participants were also informed about various government schemes and financial assistance available for starting aquaculture ventures.

Experts highlighted that aquaculture has emerged as a viable solution to bridge the gap created by declining marine fish production while providing an additional source of income for rural communities. They encouraged participants to adopt modern fish farming practices to meet the growing demand for fish in the state.

Organisers said the initiative aims to create more self-employment opportunities, promote sustainable inland fish production and strengthen Goa's aquaculture sector through skill development and awareness.
