Following the recent Vasco market fire incident, the Directorate of Fire and Emergency Services has inspected Mapusa Market to assess its fire safety preparedness and identify potential risks.

Director of Fire and Emergency Services Nitin Raikar, accompanied by his fire team, conducted a detailed inspection of the entire market area in coordination with the Mapusa Municipal Council team.

During the inspection, Raikar revealed that all five fire hydrants installed at Mapusa Market were found to be non-functional. He stressed the urgent need to repair and restore the hydrants to ensure adequate firefighting arrangements in case of an emergency.

The findings have raised concerns over fire safety preparedness at one of Mapusa's busy commercial hubs, particularly in the wake of the recent fire incident at Vasco Sunday Market.
