Chief Minister Pramod Sawant emphasized that establishing premier educational institutions like the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in Goa is vital for the state's youth. Speaking at the Diamond Jubilee celebration of the Goa Engineering College, the Chief Minister pointed out that it is not feasible for every student from Goa to travel outside the state to pursue higher education. Therefore, having top tier institutions within Goa is critical to ensuring local students have access to quality education and future career opportunities. Eminent scientist Dr. Anil Kakodkar was also present at the event and shared his insights on the role of educational institutions in driving progress.
Addressing the controversy surrounding the project, CM Sawant targeted opponents, stating that opposing the setup of an IIT in Goa goes against the best interests of the student community. He remarked that certain individuals are resisting the initiative for their own personal agendas rather than prioritizing the educational welfare of the youth. Highlighting that educational institutions are fundamental to nation-building, the Chief Minister reiterated the state government's commitment to creating modern infrastructure and bringing world class educational opportunities directly to the students of Goa.
