Goa has received approval from the Government of India to establish an ESI Medical College in Cuncolim, with admissions expected to begin next year, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant announced.

The proposed medical college will have a capacity of 56 seats and will be housed at the closed NUSI Wockhardt Hospital in Cuncolim, which has been taken over by the state government for the purpose.

Sawant said that 25 of the 50 seats mentioned for allocation will be reserved for students from Goa. The exact seat allocation will be subject to the applicable admission and reservation rules.

The Chief Minister said the project would be fully centrally sponsored and added that facilities would be provided free of cost to Goans.
