A bus reportedly carrying 147 passengers departed from the Mapusa Bus Stand for Nepal, with passengers travelling home to celebrate Diwali.
According to information received, the bus was allegedly overloaded, with four to five passengers accommodated on a single seat, raising concerns over passenger safety.
Passengers further alleged that police personnel along the route accepted payments amounting to around ₹40,000 and allowed the bus to continue its journey despite the alleged overloading.
They also claimed that the practice has been ongoing for the past four years.
The allegations raise serious questions about passenger safety and the enforcement of transport regulations.
