Goa’s professional squash player Yash Fadte clinched the Copenhagen Open 2026 title in Denmark after defeating tournament top seed and Swedish No. 1 Joel Vikstön 3–0 in the final.
Fadte delivered a dominant performance, winning 11-8, 11-6, 11-5 in a 51-minute contest to secure the title and make an impressive start to his season.
Fadte showcased his consistency and skill throughout the tournament, overcoming strong international opposition from the pre-quarterfinals onwards. He defeated Denmark’s No. 2 Malthe Laursen 3–1 in the pre-quarterfinals, England’s top junior Chester Dockery 3–0 in the quarterfinals, and England’s Gabriel Cox 3–1 in the semifinals before sealing the championship with a straight-games victory in the final.
The tournament featured players from India, Pakistan, England, Scotland, Ireland, Denmark, Sweden, South Africa, Norway and Finland, bringing together a competitive international field.
Reflecting on his triumph, Fadte said he was delighted with the achievement, highlighting the challenges of competing in the cold Nordic conditions.
“I’m really happy with this achievement. Playing in the cold Nordic conditions brings its own challenges, but as a professional athlete, you have to be prepared for everything. Experience helps you overcome these challenges, and no matter how difficult the conditions are, you have to find a way to get the job done,” he said.
Fadte also thanked his parents, family and everyone who had supported him throughout his journey.
The women’s title was won by Dutch player Huntelaar, who defeated Malaysia’s Yu Ng Chen 3–2 in the final.
The Copenhagen Open victory marks another significant milestone in Fadte’s professional career. He will next travel to Lyon, France, in two weeks before competing in the Senior National Squash Championships in India later in November.
