Chavat, or Chaturthi, is a special festival celebrated across Goa and the Konkan region, and with a special festival comes special food! In this episode, we explore some traditional vegetarian dishes prepared during Chavat. We make ‘Panchkhaje,’ a popular sweet traditionally made in different shapes, fried and filled with chana dal and jaggery. But this time, we give it a twist — our Panchkhaje is steamed and filled with grated coconut and jaggery. Along with Panchkhaje, we prepare fried bamboo shoots, a local delicacy commonly found around Dodamarg, on the Maharashtra–Goa border. We also make Heet, a traditional dish prepared in jackfruit leaves and especially made on the second day of Chaturthi.
