The National Testing Agency (NTA) has decided to conduct the UGC NET June 2026 examination again for English, Commerce and Sociology following concerns over the quality of the question papers.

The June session was held between June 22 and 30, with an additional examination conducted on July 5 across 87 subjects. The test determines eligibility for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF), Assistant Professor positions and PhD admissions.

The decision to hold fresh examinations for the three subjects came after the NTA received complaints from candidates regarding errors in the question papers. A committee was subsequently constituted to examine the complaints and assess the papers.

The review found a range of issues, including inaccuracies in factual content, printing and translation mistakes, errors in question formulation, grammatical inconsistencies and problems with punctuation. The panel also pointed to incorrect names of scholars, distorted book titles and the use of unsuitable terminology.

Another concern highlighted by the committee was the repetition of a substantial number of questions that had appeared in earlier examinations.

Based on the committee's assessment, the NTA concluded that conducting the three papers again was necessary to maintain fairness and ensure a reliable examination process.

The agency is expected to release details of the fresh examination dates and related arrangements separately.
