The Goa government has ordered a fact-finding inquiry into the massive fire incident that occurred in Vasco on October 28, which reportedly resulted in extensive loss of property.
As per an order issued by the Department of Home (General) on October 30, Secretary (Revenue) has been appointed to conduct the inquiry and submit a comprehensive report to the government within seven days.
The inquiry will examine the preparedness of the authorities in dealing with fire emergencies, the adequacy and availability of firefighting infrastructure, equipment and emergency response mechanisms.
It will also look into the sequence of events and timeline of the incident, including the time taken by the respective authorities to respond to the emergency.
The government has further directed the inquiry to examine coordination among various departments and agencies involved in the emergency response and identify any lapses, shortcomings or deficiencies that may have contributed to the extent of damage.
The inquiry will also fix responsibility on the authorities or officials concerned, wherever warranted, based on the findings.
Additionally, the Secretary (Revenue) has been asked to recommend corrective and remedial measures to prevent the recurrence of such incidents and strengthen the state's emergency response mechanism.
The inquiry officer will obtain relevant records and information from the departments concerned and seek explanations or statements wherever necessary to ascertain the facts.
The order was issued by Under Secretary (Home-I) Manthan Manoj Naik on behalf of the Governor of Goa.
