Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has said that Goa Police have been given complete freedom to take action against anyone who attacks or threatens police personnel while they are carrying out their duties.

Speaking against the backdrop of the recent altercation between Sanguem Police and Sanguem Municipal Councillor Messiah (Meshu) Dcosta , Sawant said the police are responsible for protecting citizens and generally exercise restraint to avoid causing inconvenience to the public.

“Police are meant to ensure the safety of the people, and they are doing so. Goa Police are patient and restrained and make every effort to ensure that people do not face unnecessary inconvenience. However, if anyone attacks or charges at the police, the police will not remain passive. We have given them full freedom to take action,” the Chief Minister said.

Sawant stressed that while police personnel are expected to remain patient and act professionally, they cannot be expected to remain silent when subjected to physical aggression while performing their duties.
