The BJP and the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) have held their first meeting to discuss a possible alliance for the 2027 Goa Assembly elections, with the Ponda and Shiroda constituencies emerging as key points of contention.
The MGP has staked its claim to both constituencies, but the BJP is reportedly unwilling to give up either seat.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said preliminary discussions between the two parties had begun and that the central leadership would take the final call on the alliance and the way forward.
Meanwhile, MGP leader Sudin Dhavalikar said alliance partners must respect coalition dharma. However, he maintained that his party had already begun its groundwork in 12 constituencies, including Ponda and Shiroda.
The developments indicate that seat-sharing negotiations could be a crucial part of the BJP-MGP alliance discussions ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections.
