Local fish vendors from the Bicholim and Mayem areas have raised concerns over fish being sold by people who allegedly do not possess identity cards issued by the Fisheries Department, claiming that the situation is affecting their livelihood.
The vendors met Bicholim MLA Chandrakant Shetye and Mayem MLA Premendra Shet to seek intervention and a solution to the issue.
According to the local vendors, fish sales by sellers without the required identification are creating difficulties for those who operate with the necessary documents. They urged the authorities to introduce a clear policy to regulate fish vending in the area.
The vendors also demanded that designated spaces be provided to fish sellers holding valid identity cards, allowing them to conduct their business in an organised manner.
Both MLAs assured the delegation that they would look into the concerns and work towards resolving the issue.
The vendors have called for proper regulation and enforcement to ensure that local fish sellers are not adversely affected by unauthorised fish vending.
