Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho has said AI-based traffic surveillance is expected to cover all areas of Goa by next year, with 29 more AI cameras likely to be installed as the government steps up enforcement of traffic violations.

Godinho said motorists attempting to evade detection by removing number plates or driving vehicles without proper registration would be identified and action would be taken against them. Such vehicles, he warned, would be taken into custody.

The Transport Minister said the AI cameras are currently in the trial phase and that the number of traffic violations detected has already fallen to a few hundred. He attributed the decline to increased awareness among motorists and compliance with traffic rules.

Godinho also said motorists were increasingly visiting Pollution Under Control (PUC) centres and obtaining third-party insurance, indicating greater compliance with mandatory requirements.

He appealed to motorists to follow traffic rules and complete all necessary vehicle documentation, stressing that the government’s objective was to ensure compliance rather than impose fines.

“We want people to follow the rules. The government has no intention of imposing fines,” Godinho said.

The Transport Department is continuing to expand AI-based surveillance across the state, with the proposed installation of additional cameras expected to strengthen monitoring and enforcement of traffic violations.

Godinho said the broader AI surveillance network would eventually cover the entire state, allowing authorities to monitor violations more effectively and take action against vehicles that do not comply with registration and traffic regulations.
