*In the colorful world of Goan sweets, ‘Kanagachyo Nevryo’ shines with its homemade charm. This special kind of Nevri comes with a Goan twist — it’s made with sweet potatoes, or kanang in Konkani. Soft inside and outside, each bite feels like a sweet hug from Grandma’s kitchen. Filled with grated coconut, jaggery, cardamom, and a touch of dry fruits, the mixture is wrapped in golden sweet potato dough and fried to perfection. Traditionally made during Diwali or Ganesh Chaturthi, this treat is more than just a dessert — it’s a taste of Goan love and celebration. Today, our chef Shubhada Pai Kane will show us how to make this delightful Goan sweet. So tune in, cook along, and enjoy the taste of tradition! The Star Ingridents For the covering: * 3–4 sweet potatoes * 1 tbsp wheat flour For the filling: * 2 cups grated coconut * ½ cup grated jaggery Method * Boil the sweet potatoes with a little salt. Let them cool, then peel and grate them. * Add wheat flour to the grated sweet potatoes. Apply some ghee to your hands and mix it well to make a soft dough. (Do not add water.) * In a pan, cook the grated coconut and jaggery on low flame until they mix well.
