The Mapusa JMFC Court has granted conditional bail to Sumit Rajesh Ingole, a 24-year-old man from Amravati, Maharashtra. Ingole was arrested by the Porvorim Police in connection with a Rs 1,93,096 cyber fraud case involving fake Goa Medical College (GMC) doctor’s appointments. The court allowed his bail application, observing that while the allegations are serious, the gravity of an offence alone cannot be the sole ground to deny bail.
The Porvorim Police registered an FIR on October 12, 2026, based on a complaint stating that while attempting to book an appointment with a doctor at GMC, the complainants were threatened and induced into transferring Rs 1,93,096 into various bank accounts.
During the investigation, police traced Ingole to Amravati with the assistance of local authorities. Investigators allege that Ingole procured an ATM card and a SIM card for Rs 10,000 and sent them by train to an individual known as "Pinta." He was arrested on November 3 after allegedly failing to cooperate and refusing to hand over his mobile phone.
Opposing the bail plea, the prosecution argued that Ingole’s custodial interrogation was necessary to trace the money trail, recover electronic devices, and identify other members of the cybercrime network. They also raised concerns that he might abscond, as he is a resident of Maharashtra with no ties to Goa.
Advocate Salil Lawande, representing Ingole, contended that his client was not named in the FIR, had no prior criminal record, and that electronic and banking records could be examined without keeping him in continued custody.
In its order, the court observed that Ingole's specific role in supplying the ATM and SIM cards must be established through evidence during the trial. The court further held that tracing the money trail and securing records did not require his continued detention, and any apprehension of him absconding could be addressed by imposing strict conditions.
The court ordered Ingole's release upon furnishing a personal bond of Rs 20,000, along with one surety of the same amount.
