A horrific road accident at Shindolim in Sancoale claimed the life of a 37-year-old motorcyclist on Friday afternoon after a Mercedes allegedly rammed his bike and dragged it for nearly two kilometres before both vehicles caught fire and were completely gutted.

The deceased has been identified as Ashok Chavan (37), a resident of Shindolim, Sancoale and originally from Jharkhand. He was riding a motorcycle when it was allegedly hit by a Mercedes at around 2 pm.

According to preliminary information, the impact was severe and the Mercedes continued moving with the motorcycle trapped underneath. The bike was reportedly dragged for nearly two kilometres before the vehicles came to a halt and caught fire.
The blaze quickly engulfed both vehicles. Firefighters rushed to the spot and managed to douse the flames, while the Mercedes driver was rescued from the vehicle.

Verna Police reached the site and initiated proceedings into the fatal accident.

Sources have alleged that the driver was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident. The allegation is subject to police investigation, with his medical examination and other procedures expected to establish the circumstances surrounding the crash.
