Old Goa Police have arrested suspended Crime Branch Police Inspector Vikas Deykar (40) and co-accused Rajani Palekar (37), a resident of Vasco, in connection with a case registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012, and relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.
The arrests were made in connection with Old Goa Police Station FIR No. 132/2026.
According to North District Police, both accused had earlier joined the investigation following notices issued under Section 35(3) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023.
However, during further interrogation on Wednesday, investigators reportedly noticed material inconsistencies in their statements. Police stated that both accused failed to provide satisfactory explanations regarding crucial aspects of the case.
Considering the material collected during the investigation, their alleged involvement, lack of cooperation and the need for custodial interrogation, police decided to place both accused under arrest.
Police also cited apprehensions that the accused could influence witnesses or tamper with evidence.
Further investigation in the case is underway.
