A bus reportedly carrying 147 passengers from Mapusa to Nepal was detained by police yesterday following allegations of severe overloading. The vehicle was inspected today by officials from the RTO and the Enforcement Department.

During the inspection, officials found that the bus had been extended beyond its original structure and did not have an emergency exit door, raising serious concerns over passenger safety.
The bus had reportedly departed from the Mapusa Bus Stand with passengers travelling to Nepal to celebrate Diwali with their families.
According to allegations, four to five passengers were accommodated on a single seat, resulting in severe overcrowding.
Passengers also alleged that police personnel along the route accepted payments amounting to around ₹40,000 and allowed the bus to continue its journey despite the alleged violations.
They further claimed that the practice had been ongoing for the past four years.
The findings of the inspection have raised serious questions about the safety of passengers and the enforcement of transport regulations.
