The proposed Interpretation Centre and parking facilities near the historic churches of Old Goa under the Centre’s PRASHAD scheme have been put on hold following the discovery of historical remains at the project site.

Union Minister for Culture Gajendra Singh Shekhawat said that historical objects, including cannonballs, were found during excavation work undertaken for the project. Following the discovery, work was halted to protect the historical remains.

Shekhawat stated that the project could be developed at an alternative location if the Goa government provides suitable land for the purpose.

The project had faced opposition from local residents, who had raised concerns over its proposed location near the heritage churches of Old Goa.

The future of the project will now depend on the availability of an alternative site and the government's decision on its relocation.
